OK, not that many bikes but getting involved in Ironman and triathlon in general you start to become a little (or a big) gear and bike person. You start to find a reason or justify on why you need another bike. Right now I own three, one for each type of cycling.
Here I am with my Bianchi road bike at Ironman St. George while I had converted to a tri-bike at that time:
The part that I really enjoyed about using this bike for Ironman was the comfort level. I have learned that bikes are somewhat like cars in that they "ride" differently. Now I came to find out that I gave up some speed using this bike but all in all it is a great bike. I have now converted it back to a road bike since I got this baby, my Tri Bike:
This is my tri bike (Ironman Coeur D'Alene in 2013). It is a much faster ride and having the race wheels (by Zipp) helps as well. The one drawback is that it is not as forgiving as the road bike, that is for sure. I am learning to enjoy the feel but can you love any bike for 112 miles? I guess the answer to that is only if it helps you get there quickly.
My last bike is a Specialized Mountain Bike that is just an entry level one. My son is now riding it at times since he has gotten so darn tall but it works for me on occasion.
I have always enjoyed cycling as a kid and I have to say it might be my favorite sport of the three now. Nothing like that feeling of being a kid and pedaling along at whatever pace you can.
Enjoy your workout week and see you next week for reason #45. In the mean time, today is a good day to buy a bike!!!!
